I think he was trying to create the perfect daughter, but she was always a disappointment to him. We might eventually see a flashback or a holographic form of Sir Weyland explaining how Miss Vickers couldn’t live up to her genetic potential. He could be looking at it more from the perspective of comparative mythology and relating it to a big picture about creations surpassing their creators. The MU/TH/UR system could partially be an homage to Sir Weyland's mom. Part of me suspects all the MU/TH/UR ideas are being related to Peter Weyland's own mother: she was a professor of comparative mythology at Oxford therefore, she had a few things in common with Dr.
