If students wanted a more traditional keyboard, they asked for one of the door stops to prop up their iPads and started typing. If students wanted to sit back and type using their thumbs, they had that option. The beautiful thing about the digital keyboard is that it matches the mood of the students. Students handled the issue of the digital keyboard in many different ways. In this post we will be looking first at those concerns and then doing a review on the tools that we used to make this project work.ġ)How would students do typing without the feel of the keyboards and knowing their home-rows Some of the concerns the teacher had for the project, 1)How would students do typing without the feel of the keyboards and knowing their home-rows, 2)How would students print the rough drafts, and 3)How would students be able to continue working on these from home or on another computer. The students caught-on rather quickly and were off and running with their projects. We worked with students on how to change the alignment, the line-spacing and the font. We went into this project with a primary goal of showing students how their papers are to be formatted and left withthat fully met.

Here is a summary of what we found in class. This project was originally going to be done in the computer lab using the students’ gmail accounts, but after reflecting on the project we decided to give pages a try and see how students interact with the iPad for pro-longed typing. We showed students these formatting techniques: Right Alignment/Center Alignment/Left Alignment, Double Spacing. The students are starting the project on the iPad2 Students used time at home to write the paper, and are now writing their first digital copy, a rough draft to be turned in 2 days from now.

~Software: Printopia was used to allow non-airprint enabled printers to be used by the iPads Door Jams: We had our “Do-It-Yourself” class cut out some door jams for students to put under their iPads to give them a better typing angle. Cloths by “Detailers Preference” purchased at CostCo, go with each iPad to clean off finger prints. Technology used: Apple iPad2 using iOS 4.3.5 The class met in the library to work on the project. The students were assigned to write the project at home, and were given 1 class period to write out the paper using the iPads.

For our second project using the iPad2’s, the students were assigned to write a 1-2 page paper on what they believe.
